Adequate body posture is an essence of healthy body and therefore we should take good care of it since it has been proven to aid digestion, enhance overall health, improve breathing, reduce stress, manage hormonal balance and promote mental clarity.
Improper body posture increases the risk of back pain, bad blood circulation, and tightness in the chest. For that reason, do everything that is necessary to improve it and keep it in adequate manner so that you can ease the pain and tension in the neck, back and shoulders. You can manage this in a natural simple way by exercising the muscles used in a natural, standing position.
Yoga exercise which is called the locust pose, or shalabhasana can strengthen the muscles and offer incredible results. However, if you experience back pain, seek for an advice from your doctor prior starting this exercise or any other similar one.
Way of performing it:
Lie down with your face downwards and the forehead touching the ground, then stretch both legs and spread them hip-width apart. Body weight needs to be divided equally on the tops of your feet. After that, elevate the upper body as high as possible, maintaining the head up. Inhale and raise the head, and then elevate the hands as you exhale. Keep your hands near the body, with the palms faced downwards.
Then, elevate the legs using the thigh muscles, and focus the weight on the lower ribs, pelvis, and abdomen. Keep this position for 10 to 60 seconds, and perform 5 to10 repetitions.
Thanks to this exercise your body posture will be improved, and the muscles of the legs, torso, and back strengthened.
