A recent study has revealed the top 10 most popular supercar brands in the U.S.
The study comes from GoCompare.com, which sourced data from Facebook Audience Insights to determine the popularity of supercar brands around the world. Facebook Audience Insights provides data in two ways: raw fan numbers and fan concentration. Raw fan numbers are the number of fans from each country that interact with each supercar brand page, while fan concentration is the concentration of fans in each country that interact with a supercar brand page.
Naturally larger countries will have more Facebook users, so to get a better idea of how much a country likes each brand, fan concentration was used for this list. We reached out to the researchers who conducted the study hoping to get hard figures and data to support each automaker’s ranking, but unfortunately they were unable to provide it to us. You can however, view an interactive map below that breaks down how popular each supercar brand is based on raw fan numbers.
You might be surprised to hear Ferrari is in 10th place, considering how iconic the brand is. The company currently has quite the lineup of exotic offerings, including the 488 GTB, 812 Superfast, California T, and GTC4Lusso. The Italian automaker is also celebrating its 70th anniversary this year. In terms of raw fan numbers, Ferrari tops the world with 55-million fans.
If you’re looking at raw fan numbers, Porsche tops the list in the U.S. But when adjusting for fan concentration, the German automaker is in ninth place. Porsche also ranks second worldwide with 47.5-million fans.
At least in the U.S. and in terms of fan concentration, Lamborghini edges out Ferrari for eighth place. It ranks third worldwide for raw fan numbers with 42.5-million fans. Currently, Lamborghini is preparing the launch of its first SUV called the Urus.
7. Aston Martin
Ranked fifth worldwide with 17.5-million fans is British automaker Aston Martin. The company has been making a lot of noise in recent years, especially with the Valkyrie hypercar on the horizon. Aston Martin is the most popular brand in terms of raw fan numbers in Kazakhstan, China, Uganda, and Ghana.
This one may be a bit of a surprise to see so far up on the list, but Maserati is actually ranked fourth worldwide with 17.5-million fans. Some consider Maserati vehicles as more luxurious Ferrari models, especially since Maserati uses Ferrari powertrains under the hood. But that’s looking to change, as the brand has announced it will focus on electrified powertrains for the future. When it comes to raw fan numbers, Maserati is most popular in Morocco.
It may not be topping any raw fan number charts in the world, but Bugatti has some of the most devoted fans in the U.S. The French automaker is currently producing the Chiron, the successor to the popular Veyron. It may be a few more years before we see another new car from Bugatti, but the Chiron will surely be making more headlines before its production run is complete.
Pagani made a real statement this year with the debut of the Huayra Roadster, arguably one of the most beautiful machines we’ve ever seen. The company has always been in the business of making exquisite supercars, but the Huayra Roadster really is on another level.
Koenigsegg’s rise to popularity is well documented over the recent years, and now the Swedish automaker can’t even produce enough cars to keep up with demand. Most recently, the automaker reported it has a four-year waiting list, but it’s working on getting that cut shorter.
Perhaps the most surprising company to be on the list, especially at second place, is Noble. The British automaker doesn’t generate the same daily buzz as its competitors, but apparently fans in the U.S. love talking about the brand.
McLaren Automotive as we know it today hasn’t even been in existence for a decade, which makes its rise to relevance all the more impressive. But really, one look at McLaren’s machines and it’s easy to see why it’s the most popular supercar brand in the U.S. when it comes to fan concentration. With its continual onslaught of new products, there’s plenty for McLaren fans to talk about these days.
